In my opinion, it is impossible to talk about the contemporary practice of making art without mentioning the influence Duchamp continues to have even today. Without Duchamp challenging the establishment of the time (resulting in a urinal being placed in an art exhibit) Warhol would've have leg to stand on when he presented his infamous
Brillo boxes nor would
Jim Sanborn when he recently placed a partical accelerator within the confines of the MCA Denver.

Duchamp not only challenged what we considered art by introducing us to the idea of
recontextualization; but he also encouraged us to see in a new way. His renowned work
Nude Descending a Staircase remains an example of two dimensional design attempting to create the illusion of three, as it alludes to another dimension entirely, that of time.
